I will be participating in the Michigan True Crime Symposium which will be held at the Art 634 event facility in Jackson, Michigan on Saturday, April 6th from 2-4 PM. The idea for this event came from my work on my podcast Tales of Southwest Michigan’s Past. In the course of doing this podcast over the past 2 years, I have interviewed many authors. Several of these authors have written books in the true crime genre.
With the upcoming release of my book Victorian Southwest Michigan True Crime which is being released on March 11th, I contacted a Judy Gail Krasnow, the author of a book on the history of the Michigan State Prison in Jackson called ‘Jacktown’. I was asking her about doing events in Jackson near the old prison, and she suggested we do one together, and recommended I speak with the managers of Art 634 an event facility located near the old prison.
From that the concept of the Michigan True Crime Symposium was born! The idea quickly evolved into my reaching out all of the true crime authors I had contact with. Two other authors, Tobin Buhk and Tom Carr were interested in participating and the dates worked for their calendars. Best of all the wonderful people at Art 634 agreed to sponsor and host the event!
The event format will be an opportunity to hear stories from four different true crime authors who have written stories from around Michigan. We will also all have copies of our books on hand for sale and signing. It should be a fun day for true crime fans, and in all hopes be the first of an annual event that becomes a much larger program as time goes on for the true crime fandom community!
