Follow the link above for details.

Victorian Southwest Michigan True Crime is a collection of seventeen stories that involved murder or mysterious deaths. They all occurred during the Victorian era, which was the period that was defined by the reign of the English Queen Victoria 1837 – 1901. All of these crimes took place in Southwest Michigan, and include stories from Calhoun, Barry, Cass, St. Joseph, Berrien, Branch, Kalamazoo, Eaton and Jackson Counties in Michigan.

I began researching these stories in 2021, and some took quite a lot of digging to uncover the facts. There are a few stories that I was successful in uncovering the lost details that other researchers had failed to find. Thus, many of these stories will be told for the first time since they originally happened.

The book is 192 pages long, and published by History Press, through Arcadia Publishing. I will also be speaking at several book stores, libraries, colleges, historical societies, etc. following the release in March. Check in periodically on my calendar here, as I will update it weekly as the release date approaches. I will also have a table at the Kalamazoo Living History Show on March 16th & 17th at the Kalamazoo Expo Center. I hope that you will pre-order a copy, or come see me at one of my live events. I look forward to sending you a signed edition of Victorian Southwest Michigan True Crime!

  1. After being born, growing up, living in Battle Creek in the ’60s, then traveling and living elsewhere, you realize that the Battle Creek area has incredible history, architecture, and people. From crawling through the undergrowth of the old Post and Kellogg neighborhoods and alleyways, living in the victorian age homes in town, Pennfield, all over Lakeview, Urbandale, downtown at Christmas time, swimming during endless days at Goguac during those halcyon years, attending so very many fine BC public schools during its golden years, leaves an indelible emotional mark. A sincere Thank You for taking up the worthy task.
